Products Target Should Carry

Department: Duh

So I am going to start a little thread/blog/whatever here.

In my opinion there are things that Target should offer in the way of products that they do not. I see products all of the time in my real job and with Target being the hip, cool, trendy spot mixed with your place to find everyday items that your family actually needs, I wonder why they don't carry things like the following cool products/everyday items. It's almost a big "DUH!". I am going to tell you (and Target via this blog that I know they read) what I think should be there and you tell me in comments (and Target because they read the comments too) what you have found that would be a hit at the big Bullseye! Get it?

Fresh Flowers (maybe it's regional but my stores don't carry this). If I am there to shop weekly anyway why not sell me fresh, awesome, beautiful flowers to make my house smell and look wonderful?

www.MomSpit.com - killer product, funny name, hot mod packaging. It's a no brainer, really. Mom's LOVE it. Kids love it too!

www.woobeekids.com - the All Weather Woobee. It is the ultimate family blanket. It has a water resistant side, a plush soft side, it ties to strollers, baby carriers, car seats, you name it. We have 2. Working on a third. Every mom from poshland, USA to middle America will want one.

To keep going on the mom line of thought here, what about more baby clothes? I feel like there is NOTHING for my infant to wear. She is out of sleepers with feet, but I don't dig Winnie The Pooh on her clothes so please get a cute baby clothes desigenr (Lord knows there are plenty!) to do some cute, quality goods for kids. The world of mom's thanks you.

Designer jeans but lower priced. For instance- why doesn't a brand like Joe's Jeans or Seven come out with a line for a limited time that Target shoppers can afford. It's just denim for G-sakes and it won't cheapen the brand. Tell me the last time Target DIDN'T cause better brand recognition for a label. I mean did you know who Loeffler Randall was before this Spring? Converse sure made a nice comeback too!

ok, now your turn! What do you want to see at Target?

  • In last Sunday's ad, I saw they were offering fresh flowers, at least around here, but I kind of assumed it was only around Mother's Day.

And I'm with you on the infant clothes. ESPECIALLY FOR BOYS. Kohl's has a much better infants department. If you're just looking for basics, you're not likely to find it at Target. And if they do have them, they never have the size they need. Right now there are some cute little onesies in my local store, but all that's left ar Size NB, which my son could never wear even when he was a newborn.

I don't have anything specific to add to the list, but in general I'd like to see them stock their seasonal stuff longer. They just seem to run out of them so quickly, then don't always restock. It's not even June yet and my Target is running low on lots of patio-type items.

  • Gosh, I could go on for hours on this one.

we don't have super target where I live- so first thing would be a super target with a health/organics section

Archer Farms stuff to purchase on their website.

    Like you, fresh flowers

a garden department would actually be really nice

a more developed auto department would be great as well

I'll have to come back to this...

  • DARK. BLUE. STRAIGHT LEG. JEANS.

    In all ladies sizes!

Every week on "What Not to Wear" they tell people to buy these, and hardly anyone sells them except high end brands that I cannot afford when there are so many other things to buy.

    Here is your chance Target!

Dark blue straight leg jeans! Not something with washed out thighs or weird striped or embroidery.

A nice pair of dark blue jeans that are flattering and can be dressed up for the office or or made sassy going out.

I would probably buy 4 pairs right off the bat!

FWIW, they do sell fresh flowers at SuperTarget in my area and on holidays like Easter and Mother's Day at other Targets. They used to sell garden flowers and trees too, but that is no longer offered. I know my Mom misses that.

  • Remember straight leg! Not a tapered leg or a big flare....straight leg.

    And Dark Blue!

By Blogger Missy, on Wednesday, May 07, 2008

  • Missy, you mean peg leg, right? With some acid washing down the front? Right on...

Good idea on the fresh flowers.

YES on more/better boy clothes and designer denim. Why hasn't that been done? I wouldn't mind a designer look for mens clothing, too. Their selection is rather boring.

  • reasonable shipping on furniture from the web! and dollar spot on the web.

or at least the ability to keep ANYTHING in stock at the NYC locations.

  • I needed a key copied last night in addition to some wrapping paper and gift cards. I had to go to Wal-Mart instead of Target, because it was the only place I could get all three things. So maybe a slightly better hardware section!

By Blogger The Modern Gal, on Wednesday, May 07, 2008

  • i'm with you on the super target. there isn't a super target even remotely near me. i dont think there is even one in my state.

By Blogger prettylilgigi, on Wednesday, May 07, 2008

  • I'd love a section for teachers. Deal$, Dollar Tree, Office Max, and even CVS have a section to buy workbooks, bulletin board stuff, "prizes" and certificates.
If I could buy stuff for my classroom at Target, I would probably spend way more time shopping there (is that even possible) and less time at the other stores!

  • Target does offer flowers certain time of the year such as Valentine day, Easter, Mothers day & Christmas.

Most retailers will have a 6-10 weeks floor set. This is so the stores can carry different items often. Also most retailers are usually a season a head... crazy as it sounds they will be having winter items in July! Depending where you live some Targets do carry Year round patio items. Also the Buyers only buy so much. :)

  • Don't even get me started on the automotive/hardware section of Super Target! My husband says Target is only for women, because they offer nothing at all anywhere decent for men who need tools or such. He won't step foot in there. Oh, and the boys shoes....come on, the girls have FIVE rows at our Target. The boys....one row. I have twins and can never find two of the same size shoe. I shop at The Place now for my boys. Target wastes my time, lol.

  • The Converse line currently has a pair of dark blue AND white straight leg jeans for like $33! They fit really nice, a little long but once you add shoes they should be about the right length.

By Blogger Nicole, on Thursday, May 08, 2008

  • nicole, I am so glad to hear that!

However that is where the "in all ladies sizes" comes in.

The converse line's largest size is just a little too small for my curvy mother hips.

I suppose Target and I could both work to meet the dark blue straight leg jeans goal- I could work out and Target could keep the dark blue straight leg jeans coming.

I suppose this is where I could add that I wish they had more selection in the "Plus" section. There are cuter maternity clothes in more styles than the "Plus" section.

Ladies are "Plus" all of the time, not just for 9 months! Why can't they have more cute choices? "Plus" women have money too and I think most of them require clothing and have taste.

hollowsquirrel, I am glad my post was clear! Ha!

  • i agree with the baby clothes thing- even toddlers. the variety is hit or miss for me. i'm not a fan of the winnie the pooh stuff either, though i'm glad my target sells some dwell items for babes. i'd love to see more h&m kids style of clothing for infants and toddlers. and since they already sell one star converse brand for adults, the should do that for kids, tots and infants too.

By Blogger Prasti, on Monday, May 12, 2008

  • Definitely with you, missy, on the better Plus sizes. I won't wear anything in the Plus department. I'm right on the border between sizes, but for jeans and bottoms I always go to Lane Bryant instead of Target. The plus department is just waaay too behind the times - the clothing is stodgy, boring, and matronly. So other stores get my clothing money. Bummer.

  • You (and Missy) are right on! I have a pair of Mossimo jeans, which I get complements on all the time, but they stretch out after about 5 minutes and I'm constantly pulling them up. The only dark straight leg jeans I can find have been at Banana Republic and I hate to spend $100 for jeans that will end up getting spit up on.

Cute boys clothes are really hard to find. CDJ is right. Kohl's is good and they have tons of sales. My son has every color in the Circo shorts that are on sale for $3 this week. I paid $3.99, so I'd make sure they had the size. Both my boys are under two and it's tough. Why is the baby girls section like 3 times as big as the boys?

We got a blanket from Target a couple years back that we use a lot. It folds up in a bag and has a zipper and handle for easy carrying. The back side is water resistant and the inside is soft with a cute stripe.

  • I could not agree more with the infant clothes. I also don't "dig" the Winnie the Pooh clothes and they just don't have a big enough selection for Baby Clothes. I think if Target wants more expectant mothers to register with them, they need to offer more. I could hardly find anything at Target to register for that I hadn't already registered for at Babies R Us.

  • a crafting section!! whenever i need yarn or fabric or crochet hooks...it's off to the wal-mart, feeling so dirty as i go :/ if they carried yarn i'm sure it would be elevated, high quality, maybe some hard to find decent merino blends...the very concept excites me, i may have to move in to my target if they develop a craft section!

By Blogger jenn, on Wednesday, May 21, 2008

  • Yes, better Plus size clothes. They used to have a better selection, but in recent years--yuk.

Also, they took the Just My Size pantyhose away, and substituted $10 a pair pantyhose; and again, not a good selection in large sizes. Yeah, so pantyhose is passe now, but my legs are not young and slim, so I still need 'em.

  • I wish they had higher end kids clothes in general. The boys' selection stinks. I don't want my kids running around skulls, bulldozers, or super hero crap. I love funky style with a mix of madras prep, but the licensed character stuff has to go. It seems to me that the boys department does not fit the overall Target brand. I'm a marketing and branding consultant so I see everything from a branding perspective.

I also wish they would beef up the hardware department. And how about some more cool handbags. Again, many of the bags seem dowdy. Not befitting the bullseye brand at all!

I am, however, in love with Target so I'm not complaining. I wrote about Target here:

  • Hello,
just passing through and this blog seemed intersting.
Many of the things I read you would love to see at target are actually sold on target.com including a large selection of baby clothes, automotives hardware and furniture and not always but if you're lucky you can get them with free ship... just fyi...

  • Hello, I like your blog. It is rather interesting, that is why I decided to browse the net and on this great site www.pisseconsumer.com I learned about this company a little more. Target is an American retail company. Target is the fifth largest retailer in the US in terms of sales. Target specializes in retail selling a wide range of products: clothes, footwear, home decor, furniture, garden products, jewelry, beauty products, electronics, pet products, and sporting goods.

  • I wish Target would expand their craft section to include silk flowers, sewing materials, and more. They have such a great scrapbooking selection and am surprised they have not expanded into other crafts!
