This doesn't seem fair

Department: Knocked up

Did you see the hip lookin' mama on the cover of this weekend's newspaper insert? Toting her baby around in the new Graco La Petite Alano Travel System, on sale for only $120 -- the "lowest price of the season"? In case you missed it, here it is:

Cute right?

Yeah, if your baby is a girl! Which mine is not! The same travel system, in a more neutral or boy-oriented pattern would cost me $169.99. (Click on the images below for product details)

Now, truth be told. I'm not even in the market for a travel system. I do need an infant car seat (anyone at Target paying attention!?!? Just give me the word and I'll send you my address :-) but I've got a stroller already.
But it's the princple of the matter, people!! Baby girls already get 90% of the clothing section and more options in most other areas. Now they get a bigger discount than the boys, too? What's with that?

  • well that certainly isn't fair; all colors should be treated equally!
    I mean really!
Although...I'm guessing women spend WAY more than men on clothing, over a lifetime. I mean, shoes ALONE...
So look at it more like a kickback for the female shoppers. It'll make you feel better... :-)

  • but that pink will be a bitch to clean! They'll make $$$ on all the stain removers & detergent to clean the gunk off the pink fabric.

  • Thats too funny! When I saw the add I made a comment to my hubby that it was a lot of pink! I mean #1 if anyone is buying that much pink baby crap they should be 100% it is a girl. And two, they should pray that if they decided to have a second child it will be a boy. However by that time maybe all the blue baby crap will be on sale. Oh and I would NEVER wear that much white if I had a little baby. As a mother of two young boys {3 and 14 months} this add was strange to me and I {heart} Target.

  • I agree that it's just way too much pink. Even if I was in the market for a travel system and was having a girl, I'm certain I wouldn't buy this. Looks like someone spilled a bottle of Pepto Bismal on it and called it design inspiration.

And you are so right about the white clothing!! lol

  • What a great entry - and you're absolutely right. (So is hollowsquirrel about cleaning pink things.)

You might also want to spread the word on MeasuredUp.com, a website for reviews of products and stores that you really like (or really hate). It's at www.measuredup.com, and it's very easy and rather cathartic.

  • It isn't fair, HOWEVER I am super surprised that it is CHEAPER than the boys....usually that isn't how it goes. They know us moms of princesses don't put a limit on how much we are willing to spend.
