Love the $1 Spot? Well Get Ready To Have A RedCart Heartbreak

Department: who is your #1 source?

So seriously- don't give me crap about not posting much because when I do it's good and you know it. Such as- I just got an email from an insider (I wonder if T corp will tell their employees to stop giving me insider info anytime soon?) that the $1 spot will be Buh-Bye in August.

This sucks!!!!!!!!! I am told something better will be replacing it and my response to this dear, dear inside source of mine was NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It better be good.

  • Please tell me this is a joke? I'm having an anxiety attack right now. Can we start a petition?

By Blogger Jennifer, on Thursday, July 06, 2006

  • LOL oddly enough one of the media stories I just interviewed for was soley about the $1 spot. I guess the reporter could take your response as a sign that WE LOVE US SOME $1 SPOT!!!

    I know right? GASP.

    viva la dollar spot

By Blogger RedCartRomance, on Thursday, July 06, 2006

  • The only thing better would be a 50-cent spot. And I'm not talking about a rapper.

By Blogger texasinafrica, on Thursday, July 06, 2006

  • Maybe a 99 cent spot? That sucks! I LOVE the $1 spot! The little festive stuff they have that fit the season...oh pooh!

  • I work at Target. What I've been told is that they're keeping the 1 spot. 75% of the 1 spot will be $1. 25% will be 2/$5. Apparently there will be better quality items in the 2/$5 area.

    Hope that helps.

  • Must be b/c no one ever buys anything from it and it's so unpopular.

By Blogger Eden, on Friday, July 07, 2006

  • Eden, are you crazy girl? Who doesn't love the dollar $pot?!
If what Martina is sayin is true, a dollar spot and 2/5 spot sounds pretty awesome as well!

By Blogger Mary, on Friday, July 07, 2006

  • I am also a Target insider and you can rest assured that what Martina says is true!

By Blogger disquogirl77, on Friday, July 07, 2006

  • So my insider tells me this about the $1 spot, and even though it seems there will still be a cheap spot in Target to get cool stuff, I am kind of confused. I guess we will just have to wait and see and believe me, I will give you my honest opinion about it in August

"The One Spot" is changing to "See. Spot. Save." It will keep the same
6 week format (and wonderful instant 50% off Clearence) but it will be
comprised of about 3/4 $1 items still...and 1/4 items that are
    "2/$5"...These items I have HIGH expectations for...although I haven't
    seen them yet.

  • What? Why get rid of the $1 spot?! It's a teacher's dream!

By Blogger Janet, on Sunday, July 09, 2006

  • Say it ain't so! They have much better crap than actual dollar stores!

By Blogger Lotta, on Monday, July 10, 2006

  • I got this email today in response to this $1 spot stuff....

    Dear Meg,

Thanks for writing about The 1 Spot.

Starting July 16, 2006, all Target stores will feature a section, near the carts, called See. Spot. Save. which will replace The 1 Spot.

See. Spot. Save. will feature a large variety of merchandise at two different price points: $1 and two for $5. Approximately 75 percent of the merchandise will be $1.

We always welcome your questions, so if we can assist you in the future, please contact our Target Guest Relations team at (800) 440-0680. You can also speak with a team member at the Guest Services Desk at your local Target store, or visit us on Either way, we're here to help!

Thanks for shopping with us. I hope we'll see you again soon at Target.

  • I went to a local Target this week, and all of their current $1 spot merch is 50% off. A mere 50 cents for the stuff they have now!

By Blogger bee, on Saturday, July 15, 2006

  • Our $1 spot is now all cleaned out and empty. So sad. I wonder when the new stuff will show up?

By Blogger mharvey816, on Tuesday, July 18, 2006

  • Never fear - See.Spot.Save is already here (at least at my Target)! It looks pretty much the same as the dollar spot, but the stuff 2 for $5 is a little better quality/more things are included in the package. Pshew!{collective sigh of relief...}

By Blogger Jennifer, on Tuesday, July 18, 2006

  • I just checked out my Target and they have the new 'See. Spot. Save.' set up. There were a few groovy things, but the old selection of *cute* and *fun* stuff is pretty much gone. Instead they had serious items like kitchen towels and dish scrubbers - in nice bright colors and patterns - but nothing really caught my eye or stood out. For the first time in a long time, I made it past that area in Target without loading up my cart! Hopefully better merchandise will be coming...

  • Phew! I got worried when I read this blog...but the comments have quelled my fears. I love the $1 spot, it's the first place to go...then electronics...
I'm really glad that there will also be the 2 for $5 section...of course i'll be checking out my store to see when it happens.

  • Some of the 2/$5 stuff is better quality, but right now they have these little organizational trays that are made of such cheap and brittle plastic that most have already shattered on the rack at the Targets I go to. Alas...

Hey STT people, have you seen that weird avant-garde gift packaging by the Japanese artist? Her first name is Ayomi but I can't recall her surname (which is fine, because Target is all listing them as "Ayomi" items anyway - do a website search, though they look more impressive in the store, on an endcap in the stationery section). It's a very design oriented line. There are also some designy desk sets in the back-to-school items, stuff that seems mostly aimed at college students.

  • So hopefully you've all rushed down to find that the $1 spot is alive and well with Back To School fun things for students and teachers alike.... But wait... there is now a 2 for $5 corner of the $1 spot mostly for Back to College Students. What a great idea! The best for both worlds. Target Rocks!

By Blogger DavoDudo, on Monday, July 24, 2006

  • My Target has re-vamped the one spot to include the 2/5 items. Very cool dorm room stuff so far.

By Blogger poodlesue, on Friday, July 28, 2006

  • It is just changing a little, and is now called the See, Spot, Save shop. We have had people ask for a little better quality stuff, so we complied. Most items are still $1.00, but there is some stuff that is 2 for $5.00.
